My second Birchbox arrived yesterday! I’ve been excited about this since the day after last month’s box, and I definitely think I’m going to keep subscribing, if only because of how much fun I’m having with Birchbox. I will say, though, that while my May box may have a higher value than my April one, I didn’t like it as much.
Here’s the box I got, complete with six(!) items:
Each Birchbox in May came with an exclusive Kate Spade Saturday coupon, good for $25 off a $75 purchase. This is a pretty good deal, but I’ve never bought anything from KSS, and am not super interested in trying them, so anyone who reads this is welcome to comment and I’ll send you my one-time-use coupon code! (Perks of being one of my few readers, I guess!)
I’m excited to try this Number 4 Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner combo, although I definitely wish the conditioner had been a deluxe sample like the shampoo. Anything resealable and good for more than one application is a bonus in my book.
I got a second face sunscreen this month, CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40, about the same size as the Supergoop in April, and I think the winner of this sunscreen battle has to be the Supergoop because the color matched my skin tone much better. The CoTZ does have a higher SPF, though, which is good, and it’s $20 for a full size, as opposed to Supergoop’s $32.
I haven’t tried this Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream yet, but I feel pretty good about it. It smells nice, has nice packaging, and I’m sure it’ll be an improvement on my current shaving method, aka soap. It’s a decent sample size as well.
Now onto the best/most disappointing item: LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil. It’s the best because this is no sample, it’s the full size pencil! With an $18 value, it more than pays for the box by itself. It’s the most disappointing because, while all the people in the reviews I’ve been reading got the awesome coral/peach color, or the equally awesome Pixi Beauty Lip Balm in a fun pink, I got a bright purple lipstick. I do not wear purple lipstick. I wear pinks and reds. But, I’m all about the bright side, and since this subscription is supposed to be about trying new things, I kept an open mind. I love the minty flavor of the balm, and I do not think that it wears too heavy. It stayed on for a few hours, so that was good, and as for the color, it wasn’t as bright as I was expecting. I don’t think this is an “everyday” lipstick, but it could be a fun alternative to my regular one. Take a look and decide for yourself, below.
My “lifestyle extra” this month was pretty much terrible. I got SmartyPants Gummy Vitamins and for one thing I actually just bought two whole packages of multivitamins and don’t need more, but for another, this gummy vitamin has a recommended dose of SIX per day. Six gummies, every day. That’s ridiculous. But what’s even more ridiculous is they only send you two to try. That’s a third of a daily intake. What good is that? Even the tiniest samples Birchbox sends have more than a third of a day’s use in them. A cute candle, some fun soaps, or even tea, like other Birchbox subscribers got this month, would have been much more preferable.
Like I said, I’m going to keep using Birchbox because of all the fun I’m having, and getting 60 points off this month’s box to spend in the shop helps too. 🙂 If you’d like to subscribe to Birchbox, you can use my referral link and we’ll both get 50 more points: https://www.birchbox.com/invite/kalee
I promise not all of my posts will be reviews of things, so bear with me if you’re not loving these posts. I’ll leave with you with this cool new Birchbox commercial, their first ever:
